Earlier this month I photographed an exuberantly colorful cross-cultural wedding at The Humanist Hall in Oakland. The ceremony was long, languorous and rich with Hindu rituals and details; flower garlands, opulent silk sarees, hennaed hands and a homemade fire stoked by spoonfuls of ghee at the mandap (altar). I lived in India for a year when I was 20 and jumped at the chance to photograph a Gujarati wedding knowing the day’s vibrancy would be a total treat to document. I loved the priest’s lengthy and hilarious commentary throughout the ceremony, the bicycle decked out as an elephant, the homemade beer and the gorgeous sarees dazzling in the sunlight. Congratulations K & E! Wishing you the best of luck, and much joy in your future!
